Area Information:

Floyd County is situated atop a high plateau of the Blue Ridge Mountains. First settled in the 1750s, Floyd is home to world-famous live music, artists and craftsmen, wineries, friendly people. Floyd's relative isolation until recent years—due to the main roads bypassing the hilly terrain—contributed to the preservation of the old-fashioned character of this historic Virginia town. Floyd is full of working farms and the country retreats of two generations of back-to-the-land immigrants and offers such amenities as community supported agricultural programs and organic local retail grocies. There is only one traffic light in the county, but we do have lots of clean mountain air, fresh water, and gorgeous scenery. Floyd is a popular stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway (the nation's most visited national park), one of the major sites along The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail and home to FloydFest, a popular world music festival. The Floyd General Store's Friday Night Jamboree has received national press attention and travelers from all over the world to it's weekly performances of genuine mountain music. Whether you like bluegrass and old-time music or jazz and world beat, your ears are sure to be pleased by our town. A new hotel, a dozen Bed and Breakfasts, golf courses, many fine restaurants (from country-style to eclectic fusion) and several nearby wineries can satisfy the needs and palates of you and your guests.

Little River Crossing is centrally located between Floyd and the towns of Blacksburg, Radford and Christiansburg (collectively known as the New River Valley) as well as the city of Roanoke. There are many colleges and universities in the area including Virginia Tech and Radford University. Blacksburg, a mere 24 miles away, offers all the diversity and charm of a major university town in the mountains, including bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, nightclubs, theaters, gourmet grocery stores, boutique shopping and much more. Even closer is the regional shopping mecca of Christiansburg featuring enough malls and large national retail shops and services to bring people down from the mountains from over seven counties.
