Floyd County is situated atop a high plateau of the Blue Ridge Mountains. First settled in the 1750s, Floyd is home to world-famous live music, artists and craftsmen, wineries, friendly people. Floyd's relative isolation until recent years—due to the main roads bypassing the hilly terrain—contributed to the preservation of the old-fashioned character of this historic Virginia town. There is only one traffic light in the county, but we do have lots of clean mountain air, fresh water, and gorgeous scenery. The Floyd General Store's Friday Night Jamboree has received national press attention and travelers from all over the world to it's weekly performances of genuine mountain music.
